It’s said that if you see someone who isn’t smiling, you should give them one of yours. Therefore, that is exactly what 40-year-old Brazilian dentist Dr. Felipe Rossi does.
Dentist Felipe Rossi has been traveling the world, offering vital dental care to the less fortunate. Over the last three years, his NGO Por1Sorriso has treated over 15,000 people in Brazil and East Africa with root canals, cleanings, and emergency medical treatment.
Por1sorriso is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2016. Felipe and a team of 18 individuals have the opportunity to continue transforming people’s lives thanks to volunteers, financial assistance from various sponsors, and fundraisers. Por1sorriso was designed for those living in low-income communities and disadvantaged places, mostly in East Africa and Brazil.
The non-profit organization works mostly in Africa to promote good health for those without access to basic healthcare. The NGO is mostly funded by donations from the general population. Dr. Rossi, on the other hand, has had a difficult time keeping up with the hundreds of requests he receives every day.
However, his commitment to providing dental care to the less fortunate for free is more than anything anyone could ask for.
“I didn’t do dentistry to take care of teeth, but to take care of people,” Dr. Rossi is cited in the Daily Mail as saying. “Awakening smiles, without a business relationship, just for love, connects us with something bigger,” he remarked.
People who have healthy and attractive teeth not only feel better physically but also emotionally. They become more self-assured and optimistic. Hence, Felipe’s effort has given the less fortunate folks a reason to smile once more! Take a look at their bright and joyful expressions. It’s incredible how effective a smile can be.
