Alex Cearns is an Australian animal photographer whose uplifting picture series named Perfect Imperfection highlights the lovely side of damaged rescue animals. The photographer said in an interview that one of her most ardent goals as an animal photographer is to capture all the charming details that make each animal distinct. “These are the dogs that have lost a limb, were born blind, or are still bearing the wounds of previous cruelty,” Alex said.

According to the photographer, the majority of these animals are unaware of their infirmities. “They accept their bodies without complaint and persevere with tenacity. The animals of disabilities continue to push forward, constantly wanting to be engaged and involved in as much as they can, and as much as an able-bodied pet can,” Alex said. “They need the same amount of affection as other pets and provide the same amount of love as other pets – and they all have inherent worth as sentient creatures.”

Alex believes that the animals’ resilience in the face of adversity never fails to astound her. “They make the most of life, and they have taught me so much about finding the bright side of any circumstance and never giving up,” the photographer said.
