BPOTY (Bird Photographer of the Year) is an annual bird photography competition in which photographers from all around the globe submit their most OK avian photos. The organizers got almost 22,000 entries this year, and the winners were now revealed.
Photographer Alejandro Prieto received the title of Bird Photographer of the Year 2021, as well as the Gold Medal in the Birds in the Environment category, for his shot “Blocked.” The image, which shows a roadrunner standing in front of the border between the United States and Mexico, offers “an essential tale of habitat fragmentation, and how infrastructure like the border wall may hinder species from migrating and relocating into other places,” according to the organizers.
