After a shark attack, a girl’s legs were reported to have “blood everywhere.” The “brave” Jordan Proshinsky, 12, needed 42 stitches after landing in Ocean City, Maryland. She said she felt something touch her leg while swimming with her family at a resort in the Atlantic Ocean. And suspected it was a crab and jumped out. After the beach people came to help, the girl needed treatment for 20 cuts in her legs. Jordan’s mother, Melissa Prashinsky, said she had a nurse to give her first aid. WBRE reports that her parents later took her to the hospital. “I didn’t understand what was going on until I was at the beach, and there was blood everywhere,” Jordan said.
“While I was swimming, a wave crashed, and I was on the edge of the danger zone. I did not like sea creatures, so I immediately ran, looking for blood everywhere with cuts on my left leg. ” Brooke Rathel, a registered nurse at the scene, said Jordan was “really brave.” “We still don’t know what kind of shark it is,” said Jordan’s mother, Melissa Proshinsky.
“The emergency room doctor confirmed that it was a shark bite. Because no other animal would bite like this.” Marine biologist Jay Bradley at the National Aquarium said it was not uncommon for sharks to attack the area. She said there were less than 60 shark attacks worldwide last year.
Especially, most of these attacks took place in Florida, with about 30 people in the states. She said these events were “relatively unlikely to happen in Maryland.” In a statement, Ocean City Beach Patrol said that sea creatures might have been a possible cause of the attack. “Currently, Ocean City Beach Patrol is working with the Department of Natural Resources to determine the cause of the damage,” News11 reported. “Marine life is not excluded.”
