Bananas seem to provide painters with an eternal source of inspiration. Dan Cretu, a Romanian artist, created the Bananametrics series out of the yellow fruit. When Cretu completed his job, though, it wasn’t quite as yellow. He produced some odd, contemporary art by carving off the peel and painting it in un-banana-like hues like pink. It probably doesn’t convey much about man’s nature or the difficulties of living in a city, but it wouldn’t feel odd of place on a rave or club t-shirt. These are some of the coolest bananas around.
Dan Cretu is a photographer with interest in environmental issues. Because the substance deteriorates, he must take images of fruit things fast. He’s also gained a lot of experience with it, having previously done a series of everyday objects made from food.
