Leather Made Out Of Cactus To Produce Sustainable Leather Industry

This is a very crucial time on earth to be concerned about ‘Saving the Earth’ from our own wrong doings. Some might think that every act of saving the earth should be of large scale. But any action, big or small does contribute for a larger cause. 

Two young Mexican entrepreneurs; Marte Cázarez and Adrián López Velarde, have come up with a fresh invention. Vegan leather which is made out of Cactus and still have the same feel as the Leather that is produced today.

These two friends felt that they need to contribute their part to minimize environmental pollution. They left their jobs to work on an idea they came up with. 

It took about two years to bring up their vegan leather idea into a market item in 2019.

Cactus is almost perfect, since it doesn’t need much water or maintenance and also, there are a lot of Cacti in Mexico!

“Desserto”, is the name of their Vegan Leather. It is made out of the Nopal Cactus breed.

They offer a wide range of colors, texture and thicknesses without any toxic chemical added into their leather.

The mature leaves are mashed and dried prior to the processing method. And after it is converted into “Desserto”, the Vegan leather, it feels exactly as the leather in today’s market. Customizable, resilient, breathable and elastic. This might become a huge contributor to the world’s movement towards a green future.
