Treti Pivni (which translates to “Third Rooster”), a Slavic workshop of stylists and photographers, has chosen to revive one of Ukraine’s most spectacular traditions by giving it a new meaning. They’ve created a series of portraits of contemporary Ukrainian ladies wearing traditional Floral headdresses.
Young, unmarried women traditionally wore these headdresses to demonstrate their “purity” and marriage suitability. However, the artists are now utilizing them to remind Ukrainian identity during the country’s challenging times. With Russia’s continued political and physical pressure, the country’s integrity is in jeopardy, and unification is more important than ever.
“I believe we’re returning to floral motifs because fashion is beginning to respond to the battles that we’re experiencing throughout the world,” model Nadiia Shapoval told Vogue Magazine. We’re in desperate need of some kindness.”
